Reflection from Anne Kember

I am not alone in my tiredness or sickness or fears, but at one with millions of others now and from many centuries, and it is all part of life. —Etty Hillesum

A Message From George, Ann and Katharine

Dear Friends
We are writing you to let you know that although Sunday services at all of our Churches have stopped, our church community will continue to pray and worship together.
Here is the first of our Sunday Sheets, which will have prayers, readings and a blessing for each Sunday.   These will usually be published every Saturday. We ask that you use these at your normal church service time, or join in at 10.00am on Sunday so that we all know that we are praying and worshipping together, even if we can’t be in the same place.
We will also be filming a short Holy Communion service each week which you can access from your computers and we will send the link to you by e-mail, and it will also be available from the St Mary's website, and maybe the Wambrook Website.  Just bear with us as we trial this to see what is going to work best.
You can gather with some bread, and wine, or juice, and do not worry about it not being blessed by a member of clergy – God will bless it, in and through the Holy Spirit for all that he has made is sacred.
We will be staying in touch with you by e-mail and phone and please don’t hesitate to phone one of us, just for a chat.  However, if you need any help at all please phone one of us.  We can always find someone to help.
We will still be meeting at St Mary's while we can on weekday mornings to say Morning Prayer and we will be praying for each of you by name.
We do not want to use clichés or platitudes – so all we will say is that in this time of uncertainty and high anxiety, God loves each of you and he will be with you.
Every blessing to you – stay well and safe.
With our love
Georgina, Ann and Katharine

Our Bible Reading For This Sunday

The baby Moses, from Exodus 2: 1-10
A man from the tribe of Levi married a woman of his own tribe, and she bore him a son. When she saw what a fine baby he was, she hid him for three months. But when she could not hide him any longer, she took a basket made of reeds and covered it with tar to make it watertight. She put the baby in it and then placed it in the tall grass at the edge of the river. The baby's sister stood some distance away to see what would happen to him. The king's daughter came down to the river to bathe, while her servants walked along the bank. Suddenly she noticed the basket in the tall grass and sent a slave woman to get it. The princess opened it and saw a baby boy. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said. Then his sister asked her, “Shall I go and call a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby for you? ”Please do,” she answered. So the girl went and brought the baby's own mother. The princess told the woman, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So she took the baby and nursed him.  Later, when the child was old enough, she took him to the king's daughter, who adopted him as her own son. She said to herself, “I pulled him out of the water, and so I name him Moses.”
The boy Jesus, from Luke 2: 41-50
Every year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival.  When Jesus was twelve years old, they went to the festival as usual.  When the festival was over, they started back home, but the boy Jesus stayed in Jerusalem. His parents did not know this;  they thought that he was with the group, so they travelled a whole day and then started looking for him among their relatives and friends.  They did not find him, so they went back to Jerusalem looking for him.  On the third day they found him in the Temple, sitting with the Jewish teachers, listening to them and asking questions.  All who heard him were amazed at his intelligent answers.  His parents were astonished when they saw him, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been terribly worried trying to find you.”  He answered them, “Why did you have to look for me? Didn't you know that I had to be in my Father's house?”

Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday

Wishing you all a safe and blessed Sunday

During this time when we are unable to join together in worship, we will be sending out weekly newsletters like this one, with prayers, readings from the Bible and blessings so that we may be together in faith and in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So we wish you all - Mothers, Fathers, children and Grandparents every blessing this Mothering Sunday.

Gentle, Patient God  [From The Mother’s Union]

Today we thank God for the gift of mothers and mothering across  the world.  Isaiah wrote that God is a mother to us, comforting and carrying us in her arms.
As one whom a mother comforts, so I will comfort you – Isaiah 66:13.
Gentle, patient God – thank you for your tender care.
Isaiah also wrote that God will never forget us and that he knows each one of us just as a mother knows her own children.
Can a woman forget her baby at her breast, feel no pity for the child she has borne? Even if these were to forget, I shall not forget you. Isaiah 49:15

Gentle, patient God – thank you for your tender care.
David wrote that in God’s presence, he was quiet and at peace, trusting his God like a child safe in its mother’s arms.
No I hold myself in quiet and silence, like a child in its mothers’ arms. Psalm 131:2

Gentle, patient God – thank you for your tender care.
Jesus spoke of himself as a mother, longing to wrap his arms around us like a mother-hen gathering her chicks under her wings.
How often have I longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings… Matthew 23:37

Gentle, patient God – thank you for your tender care.
