Tuesday 28 June 8pm by The Old School House Whitestaunton Taunton Deane Morris Men

On Tuesday 28th June, at 8pm, Taunton Deane Morris Men will be returning to dance by the Old School House in Whitestaunton. We had a very enjoyable time in 2019 and would welcome your support again as we celebrate one of England’s oldest traditions. We will be moving on to dance at the Five Dials Inn, Horton, at 9pm.

The first written reference to Morris dancing dates from 1448 when ‘morrysh dauncers’ performed for the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, in London. The first record of Morris dancing in Somerset is at a church ale in Glastonbury in 1580. Early records suggest links with religious feast days, festivals and pageants (and occasional riots!), but its origins, purpose and significance are really all a matter of speculation. The dancing and music has been continually changing since the 15th century - it has survived plagues, Oliver Cromwell and world wars and we have no intention of letting Covid19 finish it off.

A Prayer for Ukraine

A Prayer for Ukraine

God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen
